New PSP/PS2/PS3 Games for the week of June 21st, 2009
I’ve decided to start a few weekly features where we simply summarize the newest titles being releases here in the US. For your convenience, we’ll be linking each title to PriceGrabber.com so that you can easily click on them to find the best deal from multiple vendors. I’ll also try to include links to metacritic just incase you want to view some scores before laying down some cash for these.
For this weeks releases, hit the jump!

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - PSP - Role-Playing - Jun 22, 2009 - Capcom - Meta
This expanded version of Monster Hunter 2 is one of Japan’s most popular titles. Having played it at GDC, I can honestly say that it is one of, if not the deepest PSP title I’ve sat down with in months, and the only other title that perhaps came close to it would be Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce. Monster Hunter places the player in the role of an aspiring hunter who must accomplish various quests. Some people may find similarities to online titles such as World of Warcraft, in that the ultimate goal is the accumulation of awesome looking equipment.

Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires - PS3 - Action Jun 23, 2009 - Koei - Meta
The latest expansion in the Dynasty Warriors saga allows you to take part in various campaigns to unite China and bring peace to the land. An edit mode allows you to create your own character, and the free mode from previous games has been removed in favor of the revamped empire mode, which provides the player with several different options in terms of gameplay. Players are no longer required to merely rule their kingdoms, but now have the option to roam the countryside, serve under a ruler, or become one themselves. It might also be good to note that several of the characters feature new movesets for those of you who played 6 and were slightly disappointed by the lack of diversity.

Fight Night Round 4 - PS3 - Sports - Jun 23, 2009 - EA Sports - Meta
Perhaps the most realistic boxing title to hit the market in years, Fight Night Round 4 delivers stunning graphics and killer gameplay. It features 48 licensed boxers including Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, who grace the cover. Signature punches make a return, and the minigames between matches have been replaced with a simple healing system to provide better balance to the game.

Overlord II - PS3 - Action - Jun 23, 2009 - Codemasters - Meta
Overlord II is the highly anticipated sequel to the original Overlord, both written by Rhianna Pratchett, who had previously worked on projects such as Heavenly Sword and Mirror’s Edge. Picking up where the last game left off, you control the son of the original Overlord, Overlad–I’m not making that up. The gameplay itself remains intact from the previous game, with a few new features here and there. If you’re a fan of the original, you’ll want to pick this one up.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - PS2/PS3 - Adventure - Jun 23, 2009 - Meta
Based on the movie that was released this weekend, Revenge of the Fallen features two separate campaigns; one for the Autobots, and the other for the Decepticons. The game expands on the movie via missions and added characters. However, unlike its predecessor, Revenge of the Fallen will feature a selectable, non-linear mission progression, giving the player more control over the direction of the story itself.
