New Xbox 360 Games for the week of June 21st, 2009

The following titles were released for Xbox 360 this week. Almost all of these games, with the exception of the Live Arcade title, are headed to Ps3 this week, so in the future, I might consolidate these posts a bit more. I’m still testing the waters with these release features, so if I can limit the number of posts about them, I’ll probably see fit doing so. I’ll also make sure to note PSN and Xbox Live! exclusives.

Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires - Xbox 360 - Action Jun 23, 2009 - Koei
The latest expansion in the Dynasty Warriors saga allows you to take part in various campaigns to unite China and bring peace to the land. An edit mode allows you to create your own character, and the free mode from previous games has been removed in favor of the revamped empire mode, which provides the player with several different options in terms of gameplay. Players are no longer required to merely rule their kingdoms, but now have the option to roam the countryside, serve under a ruler, or become one themselves. It might also be good to note that several of the characters feature new movesets for those of you who played 6 and were slightly disappointed by the lack of diversity.
Overlord II - Xbox 360 - Action - Jun 23, 2009 - Codemasters
Overlord II is the highly anticipated sequel to the original Overlord, both written by Rhianna Pratchett, who had previously worked on projects such as Heavenly Sword and Mirror’s Edge. Picking up where the last game left off, you control the son of the original Overlord, Overlad–I’m not making that up. The gameplay itself remains intact from the previous game, with a few new features here and there. If you’re a fan of the original, you’ll want to pick this one up.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Xbox 360 - Adventure - Jun 23, 2009
Based on the movie that was released this weekend, Revenge of the Fallen features two separate campaigns; one for the Autobots, and the other for the Decepticons. The game expands on the movie via missions and added characters. However, unlike its predecessor, Revenge of the Fallen will feature a selectable, non-linear mission progression, giving the player more control over the direction of the story itself. As with my promise to forward about titles that I’m not so keen on, I’ll let everyone know that this isn’t something I enjoyed playing at E3. If you’re a Transformers fan, this might be the game for you. Otherwise, I’d stay away in favor of a better game, like Overlord II or Fight Night Round 4.

Fight Night Round 4 - Xbox 360 - Sports - Jun 23, 2009 - EA Sports
Perhaps the most realistic boxing title to hit the market in years, Fight Night Round 4 delivers stunning graphics and killer gameplay. It features 48 licensed boxers including Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, who grace the cover. Signature punches make a return, and the minigames between matches have been replaced with a simple healing system to provide better balance to the game.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves - Xbox Live Arcade - Action - Jun 24, 2009 - SNK Playmore
The latest, and potentially final installment of the Fatal Fury series. Originally released in arcades, and eventually brought to North America on the Dreamcast, this revolutionary 2d fighter once reigned as one of the best looking 2d fighting games on the market– rivaled only by the likes of Street Fighter 3. With only Terry Bogard making a return, the game featured an entirely new ensemble of characters to choose from. With incredibly smooth animations and detailed movesets, Garou: Mark of the Wolves would make an excellent addition to any fighting game collection. While I can’t link you to a decent place to shop for the game itself, you can get a very good deal on Microsoft points for Xbox Live! here.
