A Quick and Easy Cherry Pie Recipe
Ok, I admit it. This is probably not the cherry pie recipe you have in mind. But, if you are looking for a quick and easy way to satisfy your sweet tooth and cherry cravings, this recipe might just do the trick. (Other pie fillings can be substituted.)
Since this recipe requires a sandwich maker, your kids can help with the preparation. It only takes a few minutes to whip up several of these little pies. The best thing is, it won’t heat up your kitchen in the process.
For each ‘cherry pie’, butter two slices of bread. Sprinkle each slice with a bit of sugar. Put one slice (butter side down) in the sandwich maker. Spread a couple of tablespoons of pie filling on it. Top with 2nd piece of bread, butter side up.
Close sandwich maker and cook pie till golden. Remove from machine and allow to cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy.
You probably won’t fall in love with this cherry pie recipe, if you eat only gourmet desserts. But, if I like it I really think there’s a chance that you will too.
I made my own powdered sugar in my Magic Bullet Blender. I’m happy to report that it worked like a charm… as usual!

Low Acid Coffee
I’m not much of a coffee drinker. Honestly I prefer hot cocoa. But, for those of you who can’t get enough and struggle with heartburn and or acid reflux… this post is for you.
Until today, I wasn’t aware that Low Acid Coffee existed. Apparently, it does. I am happy to report that it is available in several flavors and either ground or whole bean.
Hevla, the brand pictured here, refers to their coffee as ‘gentle java’. Rather catchy, I must admit. When you order the product, it comes straight from the roasting plant. This ensures you will receive the freshest product possible.
It’s probably obvious that low acid coffee beans aren’t a product of Mother Nature. The acid is actually reduced during Hevla’s high pressure steam and vacuum process, preformed when the coffee beans are still green. This is a completely natural process that uses no chemicals whatsoever.
Yes, this coffee is more expensive. But anyone who suffers from heartburn or other stomach issues, myself included, will be the first to tell you that the extra cost is worth a pain free meal or beverage break.
If you have noticed a difference, when drinking low acid coffee, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Especially, in regard to the taste.

Better Bowls
Today is the first time I’ve heard of Better Bowls and I can’t wait to try them. I’ve always been a fan of both gelatin and pudding, so this product is certainly up my alley… especially since it’s supposed to be a healthier version.
Better Bowls are available in several flavors including: vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, strawberry gelatin and orange gelatin. You have the choice of a regular or sugar free version.
They are heart healthy, high in fiber and very easy to prepare. These dessert bowls are typically available in 10 packs.
You could very easily take these to work or anywhere you have access to a microwave. I’m sure that these Better Bowls would be yummy topped with whipped cream, sliced fruit or both. Live a little! Personally, I prefer my gelatin MIXED with whipped cream.
If you are trying to lose weight, struggling with a health issue like diabetes or just want to improve your overall health, portion controlled desserts can be a big help.
Have you had the opportunity to try Better Bowls? If so, I’d love to know what you think of them and what flavor you are the craziest about.
They are definitely on my ‘gotta try’ list. How about you?

Home Cotton Candy Machines
I scream, you scream, we all scream for home cotton candy machines… well maybe.
When I was little I used to love attending neighborhood ice cream socials, because of the ice cream AND the cotton candy.
Times have changed and with the help of one of several different home cotton candy machines, you can easily let the kids whip it up in your own kitchen. (I know it isn’t the healthiest of snacks, but everything in moderation, right?)
The unit pictured here is manufactured by Nostalgia Electrics. I have showcased a couple of their other products in the past, including: an old fashioned hot dog roller and a popcorn machine. (In case you haven’t heard me mention it, I love retro looking appliances.)
Honestly, making cotton candy at home with a machine like this one is a breeze. All you do is pour the required sugar mixture into the top, turn it on and watch it materialize. Really, how much easier could it be?
You can purchase cotton candy floss sugar or floss concentrate separately. The sugar, which is ready to use out of the bag, comes in flavors such as cherry, grape, orange and strawberry. However, the concentrate must be mixed with granulated sugar. Happy cotton candy’ing!

Portable Gas Grills
If you live in a condo, have a smallish backyard or do a great deal of camping, you may be a candidate for one of the many nifty little portable gas grills, available today. The thought just occurred to me that it would work wonders at your next tailgate party, too.
There is absolutely nothing to stop you from enjoying tasty BBQ, whenever the spirit hits you. (If you are anything like my hubby, that spirit can hit quite often. Am I right?)
The Outdoor Chef City Grill with Cradle (pictured here) is a perfect example of the type of portable gas grills I’m referring to. It gets great reviews and has often been purchased as a replacement for bulkier units.
One of this portable BBQ’s most unique features is the Flip Funnel design. This design helps to prevent dangerous flare ups and reduces the amount of smoke, usually associated with grilling. (Your neighbors will be absolutely thrilled.)
The City Grill will also bake a whole turkey, just like a convection oven. No need to manually turn it, just flip the funnel upside down. Pretty groovy!
While I’m on the subject of portable gas grills, I invite you to take a minute to read my posts about hot wing BBQ sauce and an ice cream maker your kids will adore!
