Cuisinart Mini Prep Plus Food Processor

mini_prep_plus.jpgI have a Magic Bullet that I use on a daily basis… almost. I love it, but have been thinking about getting something a little more powerful, as well.

From what I’ve read, it seems like the Cuisinart DLC-2AR Mini Prep Plus Food Processor just might fit the bill.

If you take the time to read the feedback, which has been written about this nifty little processor, you will soon learn that it is quite powerful. In fact, some say, too powerful. To rectify this, it has been suggested that you tread rather lightly, on the pulse button.

The Mini Prep Plus is equipped with an auto reversing smart blade that actually makes it easier to process hard and soft foods, alike. It chops and grinds, at the touch of a button and switches back and forth between the two with ease.

The processor bowl has a 3 cup capacity, which means it’s perfect for those smaller tasks when a traditional size processor is just too much trouble to drag out of the cupboard.

With 220 watts of power, this little baby is definitely capable of whipping up some tasty dips and yummy sauces. Have a recipe you’d care to share? Please post it below.

Skybar Wine System

skybar_wine_system.jpgWine connoisseurs take note! The Skybar WP1000 Wine Chilling, Pouring and Preserving System is just for you. Now it’s never been easier to host a mini wine tasting party, without leaving the comfort of home.

Okay, I confess I really don’t care for wine. But if I did I would definitely save my pennies, nickels and quarters to purchase one of these systems. (I wonder if it works with two liter bottles of soda?)

This, state of the art, appliance features three separate chambers each designed to hold a 1 ½ liter bottle of wine. These chambers are, each, temperature controlled by one of nine temperature presets that will actually assist you in choosing the proper temperature. (No more guesswork.)

You can also manually set the temperatures, in each chamber, if you happen to like your wine colder or a little less chilly. The choice is totally up to you.

When the wine is chilled, it is flawlessly dispensed at the touch of a button… similar to a self-serve drink machine, at a fast food restaurant. Thanks to a patented vacuum system, open bottles stay fresh for up to 10 days.

Other features include interior lighting that shows off fancy wine bottles and a digital temperature display.

Although I’m not much of a wine fanatic, I love to hear a bit about your favorites. There might be one out there that I would really enjoy.

Aerogardens… Yes I Want One

aerogarden.jpgHonestly, I’ve wanted an Aerogarden since they first came out. Now, looking at all the neat accessories and seed kits that have come out since then, I want one even more.

(The seed starter kit is a WONDERFUL idea! Hubby and I are going for a totally heirloom garden, next year.)

This is probably a good time for me to interject that it’s not going to be long before I’ll have to get another blogging job to pay for all of the things I want because of this one.

With the weather getting colder, here in Michigan, I am so tempted to order one. I think it’s the perfect time to bring a bit more greenery, not to mention yummy herbs and veggies, inside.

There are several types of Aerogardens available… including a ‘space saver’ model. (Yippee!)

There is also a much larger variety of seed kits to choose from. They include: cherry tomatoes, chili peppers, green beans, snow peas, south of the border herbs, Japanese herbs, Italian herbs, many different kinds of lettuce and a whole lot more.

From the reviews I’ve been reading, I’ve learned that many people are so pleased with these gardens that they’ve purchased multiple units. It just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it?

Ronco Rotisserie Oven

rotisserie.jpgMy dad recently gave us his rotisserie oven. He doesn’t feel like cooking much, anymore. So, it was just taking up space in his kitchen. Lucky for us… we love it! Our Ronco is an older model than the one pictured, nevertheless it is still wonderful.

Due in part to the rising cost of food and everything else, we eat a lot of chicken. Before we got the oven, I frequently cooked it in the crock pot. Now, it’s a different story.

A rotisserie produces the juiciest bird you will probably ever eat. (Unless you happen to overcook it.) Even better, when cooking a whole chicken, there is very little prep work involved.

You simply rinse and pat dry. Secure the legs with the provided ties. Season and then place on the spit. What could be easier than that? (OK, the crock pot might be a TAD easier, but the extra couple of minutes you spend on this are definitely worth it.)

When you purchase the Ronco Rotisserie Oven, you receive a complementary nonstick food basket (great for cooking hamburgers, chops and even veggies), rubber B-B-Q gloves, plenty of food ties and the loading/carving base.

You’ll be amazed at all the things you can do with this appliance. If your dad has one that is just taking up space in his kitchen and he doesn’t offer it to you… beg him for it. You’ll be glad you did! ;)

Krups Rotary Waffle Maker

waffle_maker.jpgI love writing for Chef Shopper, but there is one disadvantage. My wish list is growing larger and larger, while at the same time my available counter space is shrinking.

When I showed my husband the Krups Rotary Waffle Maker he said ‘We already HAVE a waffle maker’. To which I replied ‘I realize that, but does it ROTATE’? He just rolled his eyes and went on about his business. What a killjoy!

The waffle maker has received rave reviews. You may already be familiar with this type of appliance if you have ever attended a brunch buffet that featured a waffle bar. Although it’s not as heavy duty as commercial grade, it is an excellent quality machine.

Waffles cook very quickly and you can make them as ‘golden’ as you want them to be simply by adjusting the browning dial. There is a drip tray underneath, so you don’t have to worry about batter overflow.

Making waffles is as easy as pouring the batter into the bottom plate and closing the machine. Wait 10 seconds and rotate. Allow waffle to finish baking and enjoy! (Cooking times are dependent on the specific recipe you choose to prepare.)

If you love yummy Belgian waffles, as much as I do, why settle for an ordinary waffle maker when you can have the coolest one on the block.

George Forman Grill

george_foreman.jpgMy mother-in-law recently gave us a George Forman Grill. It sat in the cupboard a couple of weeks, until I decided to give it a permanent home on the counter. You know the old saying, ‘out of sight, out of mind’…

I use it at least three times a week, now. I can honestly say that I’m quite happy with its performance. I’ve made hamburgers that turned out great and they only took a few minutes, from start to finish. (You do have to keep an eye on them though; otherwise you might end up will a drier burger than you are used to. They cook VERY quickly.)

I have also thin sliced both good quality steak and boneless chicken breast and prepared it on the George Forman Grill. I freeze it in small packages and use it in dishes such as fajitas and salad.

I’ve grilled a variety of vegetables, with success. My mushrooms and pepper strips have turned out very tasty. I’ve read that some creative grillers have had success with corn on the cob. I have yet to try it.

Hot dogs turn out almost as yummy as if they were cooked on a traditional grill. Butter the inside of your bun and grill that, as well, for even better results.

If you have a George Forman Grill, feel free to share your thoughts about the product, here.

Sandwich Maker Magic

41e2mwa6f3l_ss400_.jpgI have a sandwich maker. It’s actually the third one I’ve owned, over a period of several years. The first two weren’t defective, just totally worn out. I guess I don’t need to tell you that I use this one often, too. It’s probably one of the handiest small kitchen appliances I own.

A sandwich maker is really great for creating yummy sandwiches and a whole lot more. I’ve used mine to make omelets, corndogs, french toast, mashed potato patties, little cakes, biscuits and sandwiches… just to name a few.

How many times have you been hungry for a piece of cake, but didn’t feel like heating up the house or waiting almost an hour for the finished product? A sandwich maker is your answer. Think triangle shaped cupcakes.

Simply stir up a cake mix and bake as many little cakes as you’d like. The remaining batter can be stored in the refrigerator, for two or three days. These cakes only take a few minutes to bake and are equally good with or without frosting. (For best results, spray each well with nonstick cooking spray, prior to baking.)

In regard to sandwiches, almost anything goes. You’d be surprised how good a sandwich, made with various leftovers, can be… hot and toasty and pretty darn good!

In my opinion, there should be a sandwich maker in every kitchen.

Chef’s Choice Waffle Cone Express

waffle_cone.jpgMany people feel that an ice cream cone isn’t really an ice cream cone unless it’s a waffle cone. I’m one of those people.  I love waffle cones.

If you happen to share my feelings, you can make waffle cones at home with the Chef’s Choice Waffle Cone Express. This little number produces a yummy, crunchy, cone in approximately 2 minutes. (Actual cooking time depends on how brown you want your cone.)

Because of its temperature recovery feature, you can make cones one after the other. There is no need to wait for the machine to reheat.

It has ‘baking’ and ‘ready’ lights which let you know exactly when to add batter and remove the finished cone.

This waffle cone maker comes complete with a plastic cone rolling form, illustrated instructions and sugar cone recipes. These recipes can be easily doubled or tripled, in the event you are feeding an army… of neighborhood kids. (You’ll be voted best mom or dad on the block, in no time.)

If you take the time to read several customer reviews, you will learn that this machine is very easy to use. The non-stick cooking plates make clean up a breeze. You can, however, spray the plates with cooking spray to make clean up even easier.

Cuisinart Electric Knife with Holder

knife.jpgI’ve never owned an electric knife, but I want one. The Cuisinart Electric Knife with Holder looks as though it just might do the trick. Since I absolutely love my Cuisinart ice cream maker, I have no doubts about this particular brand name.

The main reason I want an electric knife is because I’m tired of eating squished bread. I cannot, for the life of me, slice a decent looking piece of homemade bread. (Thank goodness it still tastes the same, after my attack.)

This knife comes with a meat blade and a bread blade. The nifty wooden storage tray completes the package.

After reading several reviews, I am convinced that the Cuisinart Electric Knife with Holder is the one for me. Those who own it say that it is powerful enough to cut through bone and still exhibits the ability to slice bread perfectly. They also go on to say that even though this knife may seem to be a bit pricy to some, it is well worth the investment.

Electric knives just aren’t for holiday dinners, anymore… especially one of this quality. But, if you find yourself serving turkey more often, just so you can use it, that’s ok too!

Pop Art Toaster

popart-toaster.jpgTechnically, I need a new toaster. Mine still works, but it’s older than the hills and burns toast in the blink of an eye. The problem is I happen to love the toast it produces, while at the same time my husband hates it. (So, you see HE’S the reason I TECHNICALLY need a new toaster.)

Now, I have the job of buying a new one. Because of all of the great choices, available today, I’m afraid the task is going to be more difficult than I anticipated.

I kind of have my heart set on a retro-looking model. (I think I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I love all things retro.)

A four slice toaster is a must… especially when it’s homemade bread that’s being toasted. I think I should opt for a wide slot model, as well. No point in being skimpy when slicing the bread, right?

Since my son is all grown up now, I guess a Pop Art Toaster is out of the question, huh? I wonder what my husband would say if I served him toast emblazoned with a snowflake on it?

Do you have a toaster that you’d like to recommend? If so, feel free to leave a comment. I can use all of the help I can get, choosing a replacement. Boy… am I going to MISS my morning burnt toast fixes!
