Back to Boho
Watching Paulo Melim Andersson take over the reins at Chloe has been an interesting process. The last creative director, Pheobe Philo, had a cult-like following of bohemian girls in chunky wedges that Melim Andersson has had the tough task of keeping happy. Chloe is known for hippie chic- ditzy florals, embroidery, slouchy trousers and wooden heeled shoes- a look carefully cultivated in the hands of past directors such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Philo. As I am a bit of a hippie-chic chick myself I have been curious as to what direction Melim Andersson would take my beloved fashion house. The first few seasons I was a little apprehensive. The collections had some nice pieces, interesting asymmetrical cuts, and I really enjoyed the paint-brush print from spring 08- but the feel just wasn’t very Chloe. It was more Marni, the house that he had come from. I’m just not that good with change! However, it appears that as Melim Andersson settles in at Chloe he slowly returning to its roots while adding his own modern spin. I liked fall 08 a lot, actually, the chiffon prints, flower appliques, embroidered leggings, floral- print tights and girly coats were right up my alley:
The collection could benefit from some more seperates and outerwear and adding a couple more pieces in some of the fabric that only came down the runway once. However- it was quirky, pretty and girlie- and I am excited to see what he will bring to the table for spring 09. Hopefully more floral print tights!
