Summer Dresses: Maximize

One of my favorite looks for spring and summer is the maxi dress. There is something very romantic about a dress that hits the floor, and that makes you feel a little bit dressed-up and glamorous, even if you are in a simple cotton frock. The best part of a maxi dress is that it is so simple to take from day to evening. They look equally adorable with flip-flops or heels and can be very casual or very dressed up depending upon the dress you choose, and also on how you accessorize. As a short girl, I would normally fret about being swallowed up in a dress that is long and loose, however, as you can see on the pictures below of Nicole Richie and Lauren Conrad (both smaller girls), the maxi dress is actually quite flattering on petite girls and can serve to elongate.

A simple blue maxi from Ella Moss or girly floral maxi from Rebecca Taylor are two great options:

Hi I am 4′11 and very curvy, big bust and bottom with small waist. I’m crazy bout maxi dresses but was always afraid to wear one. But I’ve decided to wear them, I bought 2 yesterday and about to get them hemmed. Should I hem them till my ankle so I cud wear flats with them or should I leave 3 inches longer to hide my heels? Shud I always wear heels wit the dress or can I pull it off wit flats basic on my height? Thanks

Hi Paula… I think maxi dresses can look great with both flats AND heels. Since you bought 2 dresses, so why not shorten the more casual style so that you can wear it with flats and hem the other one a little longer to pair with heels? That way you can have the best of both worlds!!
