Thakoon Panichgul is a favorite of fashion editors and bloggers but not a household name by any means. After Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the DNC this past Thursday, expect that obscurity to be a thing of the past. Michelle Obama chose a gorgeous dress from Thakoon’s pre-spring 2009 collection to wear to her husband’s Democratic nomination acceptance speech and nearly stole the show in the kimono-style boldly printed dress.

A huge coupe for the young designer, who was born in northern Thailand, Michelle’s decision to wear Thakoon comes on the heels of another huge announcement sure to give him major press and many new fans. Thakoon is next in line to be the limited-edition designer for Target’s GO International line. The collection will be in stores in September and be available through January.

Can’t wait for the GO International collection to make it to a store near you? Thakoon’s expertly tailored Luiza Plaid Chiffon dress and fall floral Inside Out dress are right on trend for fall and absolutely stunning.
