Happy Ugg Holidays!
According to WWD, Uggs may have saved the holiday season for many independent retailers. You many be wondering, as I did, how, in this crazy economy of fabulous sales that make it possible to buy a pair of Louboutin’s for almost the price of Uggs, are people still buying enough full-priced pairs of these ugly shoes for them to be flying off the shelves? Confession: I bought a pair this holiday season. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they are that cute, and I would never wear them with a pair of cut-off shorts or a skirt the way many Southern California girls are known to do. They serve a purpose, and that is keeping my feet warm. Of course, there are many wool socks and gorgeous leather boots that could do the same, but Uggs are just so comfy and practical around the house and while running errands, especially now that I have a puppy. With the lower temperatures outside, when I have to take her to the backyard, I throw on my Uggs, because my flip-flops just don’t cut it this time of year. I get that there are some women who are always put-together, and for them, taking the few extra minutes to lace up their boots and apply some blush before hitting the market is a must. However, that will never be me (cue Corey Flood in Say Anything) so Uggs work perfectly for my lazy sweatpants and unbrushed hair grocery shopping accoutrement. I realize I just wrote an entire post defending my, and apparently countless others, decision to embrace the Ugg this holiday season, and I’ll end with this closing argument: I bought the Cardy crochet version of the boot, with buttons on the side, that you can either wear folded down or pulled up. They’re a bit cuter than the ole sheepskin Ugg, right?!
As usual, just doing my small part to help the economy…
