Happy Mother’s Day!

Unfortunately, I did not get to spend today with my beautiful, amazing mother. I did, however, stumble across a great slide show on style.com commemorating some of their favorite mother-daughter pairs- Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Madonna and Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, Andrea and Alice Dellal, and Angela and Margherita Missoni-asking the question, is style in the genes?

Of course, we know that the above women have fabulous closets for their daughters to pillage. But true style has little to do with designer clothes. So thank you to my own mother- and the number one ChicShopper fan- for passing along her style and wisdom to me.

CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund’s Big Night

The CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund celebrated its fifth anniversary at Skylight Studios on Monday night, where keynote speaker John Galliano- in daisy covered top hat, vest, and a pearly suit, no less- advised the audience,”If you want easy, don’t pick fashion”. The crowd was quickly on their feet to applaud him. No doubt, in these economic times, the fashion industry is being reminded of just how tough the business can be. More than ever, the prize money from the Fashion Fund awards can mean a great deal to the new designers. Charlize Theron, wearing Dior, presented the night’s winners. For the second year in a row Vena Cava’s Sophiee Buhai and Lisa Maycock took the $50,000 runners-up prize, along with milliner Albertus Swanepoel. The fund’s top prize, $200,000 and a year’s worth of mentoring, went to Alexander Wang.

The four winners at last night’s soiree, Wang with his date Alice Dellal in his design, the adorable Vena Cava gals, Charlize Theron and John Galliano.Even if he hadn’t taken home the top prize, with great pieces like this beaded vest, Wang’s future is certainly bright.

Fashion Muse: Alice Dellal

Alice Dellal is hardly the first daughter-of-a-model-rock-and-roll-chick turned fashion muse, yet something about her laissez-faire attitude and half-shaved off gorgeous wavy hair has caught my attention. I’m not the only one. Mario Testino has already shot her for French Vogue, she is modelling and designing a collection for Mango, starring in the new Agent Provocateur campaign and Elle UK has named her “the new Jade Jagger” (fitting as her best friend is none other than Lizzie Jagger).

I couldn’t help but notice during NYCFW that designers, such as Alexander Wang and an uncharacteristically grungy Proenza Schouler, seem to be drawing some inspiration from the edgy party-girl.
