Figure it Out Homeboy
For some reason I tend to associate myself with men who wear the most bizzare things. Hot pink OP shorts, soccer jerseys from the sixth grade, plaid pants from a thrift store, American flag bandana’s- and I’m only scratching the surface. Perhaps it’s because my male counterparts are young and poor, or maybe it’s because they genuinely think that the hawaiian shirt from 1993 is actually cool. Either way, let’s clean it up boys. I know you like to act like you DGAF (I’m sure you can decode what that means… you smarty pants) but why not spruce up a little. Please? At leat shower for us? If you insist on keeping that “who cares? it’s only fashion” type of attitude why not pair a stylish Fedora with those disintegrating flip flops? At least your head (the part we women look at the most) will have some style. We’ll work on that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle vintage t-shirt later. And no, it is not cool at all.
Take a cue from this stud muffin… hats are hot.
Ok, well maybe these hotties are more like it….
“And a good day to you sir!” Try this Fedora on for instant freshness.

Yves Saint Laurent Resort 2009
Stefano Pilati created a short film to showcase his resort 09 collection, rather than having a runway show or presentation, inviting editors to view the video exclusively by-appointment-only at the company’s madison avenue store. This was his second time forgoing the traditional route as he also presented his fall 2008 Yves Saint Laurent menswear collection the same way. While some people prefer the catwalk, I think Pilati’s new preference for video is au courant and a lot of fun for those of us who can’t make it to fashion week; the internet is the great equalizer. I loved the space the film was shot in, it made me think of Carrie and Big’s tragic apartment in the Sex and the City movie. It was fun being able to see the model strut her stuff both towards the camera and away as a runway show would give you, but with the added bonus of close-ups, shots of the accessories cleverly placed in the apartment and with chic editing and multiple frames. As for the clothes, the menswear inspired looks with shirting tucked under structured dresses of suiting were great and I also enjoyed the gorgeous gowns with cut-out sleeves at the end. My favorite look had to be the almost-out-of-place black mini-skirt and tee-shirt combo. It was the perfect film to watch with my morning cup of coffee. Some photos of the collection:
To get the look for less, try wearing this slim-fit Theory shirt under a structured strapless LBD from Helmut Lang:

Haute Holidays: For Him
Men: They’re notoriously difficult to shop for. The male species generally tends to prefer gifts that are useful over decorative, functional over fun. If the men on your list hold to this pattern, getting even a little holiday shopping done for them can be quite a feat. Have no fear, though: there are plenty of gifts out there that many a man will enjoy, even cherish.
It might be a bit of a cliche, but ties, cufflinks and other formal necessities can make for great gifts to the men in your life. Little luxury items like these cufflinks by Montblanc will make dressing for those necessary holiday parties just that much easier, and he’s sure to be grateful for that.
Just about every man can use a pair of warm slippers. These ones by UGG Australia are sure to please.
Why stick to clothes items? Electronics are useful and fun, and have the potential
to provide plenty of entertainment - even to the pickiest man on your shopping list -year-round. Some items he might enjoy: an LCD TV by Samsung, or Apple’s iPod Nano.
