Stella McCartney and Peter Blake: Nothing But Blue Skies…
More than 40 years ago Peter Blake, the British Pop Art icon, designed the album cover for The Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. Today, you can wear one of his works of art thanks to a collaboration with Beatle offspring Stella McCartney. According to The Moment, Blake’s clouds were inspired by the great landscape painter John Constable. McCartney’s collection includes a cloud covered dress, blouse, T-shirt, tote bag and espadrilles.
Apparently, the McCartney’s and Blake do well together. The album art for “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is probably one of the most iconic album covers of all time (in my very humble opinion), and I’m seriously coveting this espadrilles. Who doesn’t want to walk on clouds?
Want to learn more about the man behind the print? Check out Peter Blake: About Collage, this catalogue opens with an interview in which he discusses his use of collage, his influences, and his many collaborations with musicians, writers and performers. It goes on to showcase a collection of work that tests the boundaries of collage and collecting.

Chloë Sevigny: Uniformly Chic
Do you have those outfits, or articles of clothing, you find yourself wearing over and over to the point where you are almost embarrassed? Outfits that are brainless, look good on you, and can be mixed-up a little with accessories- yet you kind of wonder if anyone else notices how often you wear them? Well, I sure do. And so does Chloë Sevigny.
Chloë modeling variations of Chloé’s long jacket and scalloped shorts suit, at the label’s L.A. opening bash, the Paley Center, Veuve Clicquot’s Governors Island polo match, and again at last week’s Swarovski Crystallized party. Of course, my well-worn outfits (think skinny jeans and American Apparel tees) certainly do not equate to gorgeous Chloé suits. Then again, I am in little danger of being photographed and plastered all over the internet when I am a repeat outfit offender. So what do you think, is Chloë’s philosophy of finding what works and sticking with it inspiring you to wear your favorite pieces more often?
Not only does Chloë share her name with her uniform’s label, she is also one of the faces of their new fragrance (so maybe there is a reason for her constantly wearing Chloé).
If you haven’t checked out the fragrance for yourself, you totally should. It is light, floral, simple and delicate, with just a hint of spice. Perfectly suited to the label and Miss Sevigny.

Confessions of a Chicaholic: Isla Fisher
The roomie and I rented Confessions of a Shopaholic this weekend, and while I knew that it wasn’t going to be my favorite movie ever (I actually did not really care for the books, although I know there are many fans out there), I was hoping for some serious fashion eye candy. After all, the movie’s stylist was none other than Patricia Field, the wacky genius behind Sex & the City’s amazing, trend-setting, fashion. I have to say I was more than a little disappointed, we never got to see the main character do any serious shopping damage besides for an ugly pair of Gucci boots and a green scarf. There was not a single fashion movie montage, not a single one! The one saving grace was the movie’s star, Isla Fisher. The woman is hilarious and adorable, and her personal style is quite covetable. Much more so than her onscreen personality in Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Whether running errands in jeans or glam on the red carpet, Isla looks chic, feminine and youthful. Her style is fun without being over the top and begs to be emulated.
A fan of statement jewelry (as you can see above with her bold metal necklace choices), Isla would no doubt be smitten- as am I- with this Gilda Collar Necklace from Fiona Paxton.

Phoebe Philo Presents Celine Resort 2010 Collection
Things have been so hectic for me at work that I have barely had time to digest all of the Resort 2010 (oh wow, sounds so futuristic) collections that are being presented. Today, however, I made sure to take time to stop and smell the sartorial roses. Phoebe Philo presented her debut Celine collection in a bare loft space in Chelsea… and all the fashion world (who have been in desperate need of some good news) rejoiced. Philo left Chloé- where she had amassed a cult following obsessed with her girlie, effortless aesthetic and wedge platforms- after her spring 2006 collection to focus on her family. The fashion world has been missing her ever since- and waiting with baited breath for her first Celine collection ever since it was announced she would be replacing Ivana Omazic at the helm. The collection was a little more sophisticated that what fans fell in love with at Chloé, but still unmistakably Philo. It will no doubt be a huge hit, and I can’t wait to see what she presents for her first full size collection in October.
This collection has me seriously pondering the lack of tailored ankle-length trousers in my wardrobe. I mean, how spot-on do they look both in bright blue and in black? This pair from INC International Concepts has a great, slim cut, and they won’t break the bank…

Girl Crush: Nicole Richie and House of Harlow 1960
I have a major girl crush on Nicole Richie. Much like the Olsen’s and Kate Moss, she really can do no sartorial wrong in my eyes. Plus, I find her incredibly hilarious (she made The Simple Life worth watching) and surprisingly down-to-Earth (which I have gathered from following her on Twitter, natch). I really hope my boyfriend doesn’t break up with me for publicly admitting to liking The Simple Life and stalking celebrities on Twitter… oh who am I kidding, that’s really only the tip of the embarrassment-iceberg for the poor guy. But I digress. It is amazing that it has taken me this long to gush about Ms. Richie’s jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960, on this blog. Not only is the collection cool and totally wearable, but also reasonably priced, which you know seals the deal for me.
If only the van full of vintage textiles came with the Feather Station Necklace.

Happy Mother’s Day!
Unfortunately, I did not get to spend today with my beautiful, amazing mother. I did, however, stumble across a great slide show on style.com commemorating some of their favorite mother-daughter pairs- Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Madonna and Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, Andrea and Alice Dellal, and Angela and Margherita Missoni-asking the question, is style in the genes?
Of course, we know that the above women have fabulous closets for their daughters to pillage. But true style has little to do with designer clothes. So thank you to my own mother- and the number one ChicShopper fan- for passing along her style and wisdom to me.

Thank You for Being a Friend
It’s no secret to the people who know me that I’ve been a huge fan of The Golden Girls for a long time. I’m not the only one- a lot of my friends also love the show. It’s very well written, funny, tackled serious issues such as gun control and gay rights, and centered around the lives of four females and their relationships with men and with each other. I’m not the first person to make the analogy that The Golden Girls was the original Sex and the City… with orthopedics rather than Manolos. It’s been a sad 10 months for us Golden Girls fans- first Estelle Getty passed away in July and this past weekend Bea Arthur also passed. In a strange twist of fate, Arthur passed just as Bonhams & Butterfields starting alerting potential buyers to the sale of property from the estate of Estelle Getty. Along with Getty’s Emmy and Golden Globe awards, her trademark straw handbag and over-sized eyeglasses used on every episode of The Golden Girls will be for sale.
While I am not about to drop the money on either of these iconic pieces, they would be pretty awesome to own. Perfect accessories for the Golden Girls Halloween costumes my girlfriends and I have been talking about… Luckily there are plenty of sequins, shoulder pads, caftans, straw bags and vintage eyeglasses out there (no small thanks to the Olsen twins) for us to choose from come October.
Although, now that I think about it, a straw handbag is perfect for summer… loving this patent leather trimmed version from Spiegel.

Here We Go Again… Jacobs by Marc Jacobs
As if being the man behind Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton wasn’t enough, Marc Jacobs is branching out again with another line- Jacobs by Marc Jacobs. While creating yet another diffusion collection may seem a little extraneou, Jacobs by Marc Jacobs actually has a great mission behind the product. The range of t-shirts, totes and wallets will feature the work of artists with disabilities, and all proceeds will go to the Creative Growth Art Center.

I love that the line provides not just philanthropy in the form of monetary donations (don’t get me wrong, donating money is amazing, and all proceeds is even more so), but also provides a platform for these artists to get their work to a larger audience and spread the word about the amazing work being done at the Creative Growth Art Center. Artistic expression is truly theraputic. Marc Jacobs may be scheming to take over the world one diffusion line at a time, but with humanitarian projects like this- that give me a great excuse to buy a cute new wallet- I can’t help but be a loyal follower of King Jacobs.

Fashion Icon: Annie Hall
On of my all time favorite movies is Woody Allen’s Annie Hall and have watched it twice in two weeks thanks to it being on one of my movie channels. A story about a neurotic New Yorker (of course, played by Allen) and his love affair with the kooky Annie Hall. I can’t help but see some of myself in her character, and know many other women feel the same. While some credit goes to the male writers for tapping into the female psyche, most goes to Diane Keaton, who is absolutely wonderful in the role that won her an Oscar. While I can see myself in her character, what I would really love to see myself in is the clothing she wears throughout the movie. The bohemian urban hippie looks she wears in some scenes are great, but the looks that really steal the show- and started a fashion phenomenon- are her menswear inspired ensembles. If you’ve seen anything of Diane Keaton’s sartorial choices throughout the years, it should come as no surprise that the clothes Annie wears are all Keaton’s own. Of course, this look isn’t the easiest to pull off. The above outfit looks great on Keaton, who is tall and lean, but put those pants on my 5′1″ frame and it won’t be a pretty picture.
To make the Annie Hall look work for me, I’m thinking cropped pants like these from Lauren Moffatt.
This short sleeved white shirt from James Perse.
A thin tie-dye scarf, like this one from TDM, is a funkier, less Avril Levigne, option than a tie.
Last but not least, a low-cut, cropped vest from Ann Taylor is the finishing touch.

First Lady of Flats
You can’t look at a news website, gossip magazine or fashion blog these days without receiving an play by play of every sartorial choice Michelle Obama makes while in Europe. I’m talking about updates when she takes her coat off, and fashion face-offs with all the other women she meets. A lover of both fashion and politics, I am certainly not complaining. And while I won’t post my own fashion face-off here, I’d like to switch over to the French first lady for a moment, and her penchant for flats. Ah, a girl after my own heart. While I may swoon over the amazing stiletto heels and platform pumps in editorials and on Jak & Jil, when it comes to my own feet, they are almost always clad in flats. I often glance at the ladies around me- at work, in my social circle, walking down the street- and vow to become more of a heels person when I see how chic and slimming they are. However, the uber-chic Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy has given me a new confidence in my shoe collection:
What I love is that she doesn’t just pull out the flats for casual events- she wears them with ball gowns and to meet the Queen- and they don’t seem at all out-of-place. I need to carry a picture of Mrs. Bruni- Sarkozy in my purse to remind myself that comfort and style aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.
The zebra print and teal details on these Luichiny flats give them a playful twist.
