Not So Mellow Yellow
These photos from Garance Doré are making me rethink my decision to leave The Gap today without any khaki in my shopping bag.
The khaki paired with bright yellow in these photos is absolutely perfect for summer. I’ve finally managed to achieve a bit of a tan, and cannot wait to pair it with this awesome color combination. I just bought an amazing goldenrod yellow cashmere sweater, and hadn’t even considered wearing it with khaki until I came across these photos. Fortunately, I know exactly what khaki item to pair with it:
The slouchy, casual vibe of these pin-tuck detailed shorts from The Gap are perfect for summer and perfect for pairing with my new favorite yellow sweater.
I’m thinking after seeing the above photos, you are going to want a new favorite yellow sweater of your own, this one from Old Navy is cute and, best of all, affordable:

Wildfox Couture’s Fall 09 Lookbook: Vampire Chic
Wildfox Couturemakes vintage-inspired, cheeky t-shirts for girls that are favorite of Hollywood ladies such as Miley Cyrus and Fergie. After seeing images from Wildfox’s fall 2009 collection, I think it may be time for me to join the fan club. The lookbook shoot is a decadent, daytime hotel party for the cool-girl vampires, hiding-out from the Los Angeles heat. The concept is great (and perfectly timed with the Twilight hysteria that is befalling young ladies these days), the photos are awesome, and I kinda wish I was invited to the party…
I may not be cool- or undead- enough to hang with these girls, but these images certainly have me yearning for a Wildfox Couture tee of my own. While I am smitten over the not-yet-available fanged smiley face longsleeve tee, I’m thinking this oversized St. Tropez tank will do until I can get my hands on the fall collection, it will look perfect paired with cut-off shorts this summer:

American Apparel, My Hero
This weekend my mother came to visit and we spent most of our time lounging on the beach in Santa Monica, our favorite mother-daughter activity. On Saturday, while on our way there, I realized that I had forgotten to bring, of all things, my bathing suit. Instead of turning around, we decided to just find me a new one down on Main Street before heading to the sand. Of course, as is often the case when you are looking for something in particular and have the money to buy it (or the mother to buy it for you) I just couldn’t find anything that I thought was cute. Not one to spend a lot of money (and let’s face it, bathing suits are not cheap) on something I don’t love, I decided to go hit-up the American Apparel and get something basic and affordable. I got the Nylon Tricot separates- cobalt for the bottom and grape for the top (I am not one for matching). For less than what I would have paid for just the bottom-half of a bikini somewhere else, I am in love with my new swimwear. The best part is I can mix and match these pieces with bikinis I already own, exponentially increasing my beach wardrobe.
You can’t go wrong with AA’s bikini top and beaded bikini bottom:

Hair Appliances to Love
Is it just me or is finding a good hair straightener extremely difficult? I can’t tell you how many different models I have gone through since my first one was destroyed by my clumsy roommate. I was absolutely crestfallen by the loss of my CHI ceramic hair straightener. For those of you who are as devoted to hair care as I am, I’m sure you can understand how attached a woman becomes to her hair appliances. Although I could use a blow dryer provided at the gym, I want to use mine and even when my roommate has her straightener already plugged in I will still wait the extra five minutes to plug in my own. I am ashamed to admit that I dedicate more time than I should to the care and keeping of my hair. Long hair comes with sacrifices which I am forced to make. This being said, I have had lots of experience when it comes to blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons, and even a dreaded crimper (back in the day). Through extensive research these are my picks for the best hair appliances on the market.
Some straighteners simply glide over the hair, leaving those crimpy in between pieces. This HAI Ceramic Straightener grips the hair leaving every strand silky smooth. I recommend straightening your hair upside down to get added volume.
This Hot Tools 1-1/4 inch curling iron can seriously curl even the most straight hair. The 1-1/4 inch barrel is great for soft, cascading curls.

The power coming out of this Babyliss Pro Super Turbo Blow dryer is simply ridiculous. It dries my hair in half the time! It’s better to use blow dryer with more wind power than heat. I once used a blow dryer that got too hot and it singed off some of my hair. No joke- I can’t wear high pony tails anymore because a random piece of hair sticks out.
Those are my picks for the best hair appliances available on the market. I’m hoping you will enjoy them as much as I do- which I know you will because they are fabulous.

Peace, Love, and Headbands
There is an urban legend that Jimi Hendrix would tie a scarf around his forehead so he could keep a tab of acid underneath it while on stage. Whether this is fact or fiction, we can thank Mr. Hendrix for inventing one of my favorite trends of the season, the rock’n roll headscarf. Even though the Vietnam/Free-Love era was decades before my time, I still had a Jim Morrison poster on the wall and belted out Janis Joplin songs in the car. I sometimes get strangely disappointed that I will never be able to roll around in the mud-pit at Woodstock (sigh.) Regardless, the style and attitude of the 60’s and 70’s continues to resonate in popular culture. The men and women of this era gave us the social liberation we enjoy today and I say we owe it to them to utilize our freedom! Put away the blow dryer! Leave the heavy make-up in the drawer! Take off your shoes and check out these hippie inspired headbands and scarves.

Nothing says, “Foxy Lady” like a funky, Hippie-inspired headband. If you’re going to take off your shoes and frolic in a field somewhere, make sure to wear lots of sunscreen- these accessories do not leave the best tan lines.

I love the scarf above because it’s vintage inspired and easy on the pocket book. Be careful because these headbands can be outrageous- I saw one for $150.00! There’s nothing “free” about that…

Travel in Style
Traveling stresses me out and I will admit, I am a bit of a rookie. I get to the airport three hours early and I carry a bottle of Dramamine in my carry-on. When going through airport security I always get my toothpaste taken away and I dread the thought of having to take off my shoes. I honestly have a small panic attack every time I hear the echo of those gray plastic bins slamming on top of the conveyor belt. I am usually a comfort-before-style type of traveler, who wears tennis shoes in case there is a need to evacuate the aircraft. My entire philosophy on comfortable traveling changed when a beautiful passenger sat down beside me, which (I’m sure we can all agree) never happens in real life. It was a sad journey, looking at the ring-less anesthesiologist, wishing that I had washed the mascara off my face that morning. After the silent 6 hour plane ride I pledged to myself, I will never look like a bucket-of-yuck whilst traveling ever again. Colorful Maxi-dresses and loose-knit beanies are fashionable, comfortable, and airport security compliant.
Long “Maxi” Dresses are perfect for traveling.

Think of it as being curled up in a long, soft sheet. They are colorful, flattering to most body-types, and will most likely get you through the metal detector without setting it off.

Knit Beanies are a great way to avoid “Airplane Hair”

Keep your hair out of the way with one of these loose- knit beanies (a la Cameron Diaz). These are also great for germ-o-phobes who are disgusted by the head rests of airplanes and/or those who dislike the arctic temperatures of the friendly skies.
