Long Walks

For lighter hiking and walking comfort, dad will enjoy the Timberland Winter Park Men’s Slip-On (pictured above).

Designed specifically for long-distance travel and light hiking, the Winter Park Slip-On is the perfect gift for the father on the move.
Crafter for a combination of comfort and durability, the shoe offers excellent protection against the elements. Moisture-wicking SmartWool lining keeps feet dry and warm. Timberland’s Winter Park Slip-On is also covered in rich oiled leather upon which water beads up and rolls off. This full-grain, seam-sealed, waterproof premium leather covers the upper part of the shoe. The shoe’s sole is strong enough for slippery slopes, but light enough for long walks.

The slip-on is also a great choice for seniors. With a comfortable footbed that naturally contours to the foot, even grandpa will enjoy.

Golf Tees

61434859_125.jpgIf your dad loves golf, but your garage is running amuck with golf balls and dad already has more 30-packs than he knows what to do with, then give him a golf t-shirts instead.

Patagonia, of course, has a great selection. Check out their polo shirts that come in a range of colors and patterns. All are collared offering a cleaner, trimmer fit and improved finish details. Plus, dad will love that they’re super comfortable. Called the “A/C Shirt,” these tees are designed specifically for hot, humid weather, they’ll be sure to keep him dry and cool throughout a long day in the sun.

For cooler weather, Patagonia also makes the popular Puckerware Shirt. Made from a textured blend of polyester and organic cotton this shirt offers a bit more weight, while also keeping him dry and comfortable should he work up a sweat in that long walk to the 9th hole.

Father’s Day Golf

nikegolfballs.jpgAny golf enthusiast will tell you that golf is the true sport of father’s day. As the game spans time, space and challenging circumstances, it inevitably generates a bond between players. So take your father for a bonding day on the course . . . as said in an article in Golf Digest, “In an era in which the family unit is being kidnapped by forces ranging from the 60-hour work week to the PlayStation, it is the golfer who still has the greatest capacity to celebrate Father’s Day.”

A great way to introduce a day of golf is with breakfast in bed and a small gift of Nike’s recycled golf balls wrapped up with a handmade card that says, “lets go golfing today.” He’ll love it.

Many major sports companies are now offering recycled alternatives to their best-selling products. Titleist offers “previously played” Recycled Pro-V1 36 Pack Golf Balls. does too. All are durable and designed for distance and performance. You can even get them with a soft blue core for more spin Hex Aerodynamics construction.

Give the ball that’s best for his game. Happy golfing!

Green Gadgets for Fathers Day

energystarlogo.gifWe all know fathers love appliances and gadgets. With Father’s Day coming up, what better way to thank your dad for . . . well, being your dad . . . than with some hand dandy green gadgets?

One of the best ways to ensure his gadget is green is with the purchase of an Energy Star certified appliance. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy that identifies and promotes efficient products. Those appliances carrying the Energy Star symbol are better not only for the environment, but also your father’s energy bill. According to Energy Star’s website, “Americans, with the help of Energy Star products, saved enough energy in 2006 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 25 million cars — all while saving $14 billion on their utility bills.” Wow, that’s a pretty convincing statistic!

There are so many places to buy Energy Star products. Shop Green is a great place to start with a solid assortment of Energy Star dishwashers , air conditioners, cordless phones, showerheads, refrigerators, etc. The site picks the best Energy Star products and organizes them in an easy and convenient list so you can scroll by price, brand, or customer rating. Check it out . . . your dad, his energy bill, and the environment will thank you.

Father’s Day is coming up soon—the third Sunday in June. Of course, I strongly recommend going material-gift-free. Pottery Barn Offers Organic Cotton

I am quite excited to announce that Pottery Barn is offering a collection of bedding, towels, robes and upholstery all made from 100% organic cotton fiber. Yay! This is great news! Not only is the cotton organic but is also certified and regulated by Oeko–Tex, a separate association of ecological textile research, testing and certification. Pottery Barn’s organic cotton is therefore certified as using no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, fragrances or dyes.

With over 198 stores in the US and Canada, Pottery Barn also has an extensive reach. Sourcing certified organic cotton means thousands of pounds of organic cotton purchased—a helpful boost to organic cotton industry—and millions of pounds of pesticides avoided. Yay, Pottery Barn!

Pottery Barn’s efforts to offer a large selection of organic cotton products is notable. Considered the best one-stop-shop for quality house wares and wedding gifts, the brand is a true trend setter in a competitive industry. I hope that Pottery Barn’s move to organic cotton will inspire other large retailers to go green as well.

The organic cotton bedspread pictured here is a beautiful display of graphic botanicals outlined in tone-on-tone contrasting threads. According to Pottery Barn, the flowers are all hand-embroidered too. The pattern repeats on the quilted pillow shams.

Lip Balm

11ezfjybtnl_sl500_aa180_.jpg If you prefer something a bit more subtle on your lips consider an organic and lead-free balm or gloss. I like the options available from EO Products, a beauty and health company that specializes in natural and organic products. EO Products Organic Lip Treatment comes in both Grapefruit and Honey or Lavendar and Aloe. Both will keep your lips soft and as they make use of only the finest organic ingredients such as cold-pressed Safflower and Sweet Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Beeswax, Organic Safflower and Pure Essential Oils. All ingredients work to maintain moisture, therefore preventing dry, flaky lips. EO’s treatments will also add a bit of sultry shine to your smile. Moisturizing and delicious, they’re the perfect alternative to synthetic glosses rife with artificial fragrances and dyes.

Lead-Free Lipstick Options Continued

For more in rich pigments and long-wear reliability, try CARGO PlantLove’s Botanical Lipstick Line.

p172734_hero.jpg

I simply adore this company . . . why? Because their lipsticks come in tubes made entirely out of corn—not plastic. Corn is a renewable and abundant resource, while plastic requires the use of petroleum, which as most of us know is running low these days. Each tube then comes in a box made of flower paper—that’s recycled paper that is embedded with real flower seeds. Simply moisten, plant, and wait for a bouquet of wild flowers to grow!

But let me tell you about the lipstick . . . smooth and silky, the innovative botanical formula is infused with organic meadowfoam seed oil as well as jojoba and shea butter. And you’ll be star-struck by the color options—literally! CARGO corralled ten a-list celebs to contribute their inspiration to the line. Each color is designed by and named after an a-list celeb:

-Evangeline: Evangeline Lily
-Lindsay: Lindsay Lohan
-Maria: Maria Menounos
-Mariska: Mariska Hargitay
-Sarah: Sarah Chalke
-Cherry Bliss: Kim Raver
-Grace and Faith: Angie Harmon
-Sam and Lola: Denise Richards

Best of all, CARGO is doing a promotion in which they’re donating two dollars from the sale of every shade to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Get yours here.
