Sony and Harlequin for Valentine’s Day
You might remember last year when Sony released the special edition of their reader in pink and loaded it up with 14 Harlequin novels for the recipient to read. Now, that pink reader is no longer available, but the folks at Sony have come out with a new special edition just in time for Valentine’s day again.
I think this year’s special edition is even better, because instead of pink it’s red! Gorgeous beautiful red. And instead of 14 novels this year you’ll find 16 Anniversary Harlequin eBook titles plus you’ll score a free copy of Secret Fantasy by Carly Phillips. Plus
Plus, redeem your free eBook code by March 6, 2009 and receive an additional 5 months of romance. You will receive a new coupon code each month through July 2009 good for 20% off a Harlequin eBook title.
And just to make it super special you get a soft leather cover for your shiny red reader (say that five times fast) embossed with the Harlequin logo.
Aside from the redness, the Harlequin embossed cover, and the mushy romance this digital e-reader is the same as the standard color digital readers you can buy from Sony. The special edition makes a great gift for that romance novel lover that just can’t get enough of the mushy stuff.

Record Your Message for Valentine’s Day
This might even be better than a digital photo frame. I think loved ones you don’t see that often will appreciate this photo gift more than anything. Grandma and Grandpap particularly spring to mind here.
You add any 5×7 or 4×6 picture to the talking photo frame and you can record up to 4 messages of 5 seconds each. Perfect for me since I have 4 kids, they could each say hello to Grandma in their own voice.
What I find most cool about this picture frame is you can match each recording to an area on the photo and press that area to hear the recording. So the gift recipient would actually touch each person in the picture to hear what special message they’ve recorded.
Of course, it also makes a great gift for yourself too. This leather photo frame looks great on the wall or on your desk, and can be displayed just about anywhere you might need a little cheering up throughout the day. What could be better on a boring day at the office than hearing your toddler laugh, or your husband say “I love you.“

SMT (aka Surface Mount Technology) for Valentine’s Day
Has your significant other ever said, “I just don’t get all this techie stuff you do.” Well then this heart shaped SMT (Surface Mount Technology) kit may be the gift for you to buy this Valentine’s Day… or maybe the gift to receive. Either way, it’s sure to get someone’s attention.
This is actually a learning kit. The recipient gets to learn all about SMT devices and design. Oh yes, this gift comes with the dreaded words “assembly required” on the package! Just like the SMT Christmas Tree Kit, this little kit gives you a distinctive display using 6 Surface Mount (SMT) LEDs. The PC board is in the shape of a heart and is also red. The small size makes it perfect to be used as a badge or hanging pendant around your neck. Runs on a small CR2025 or CR2032 button cell (not included). Makes a great SMT learning kit, and extra SMT components are included just in case you lose or damage any!
Although cute and fun, if you’re getting this as a gift for your non-tech-crazed significant other, I highly recommend pairing it with something a little more interesting to them as well … or at the very least a nice dinner with drinks. this gift is really more for a light hearted techie giggle. It might make a better gift for that silly guy that sits across from you in the office than it would for your big V-day date.

Digital Photo Frames for Valentine’s Day Love
Photo frames with pictures in them are probably among the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts, right up there with chocolate and flowers. Of course, with the growing popularity of digital photo frames, why give one photo when you give 100?
This cute little digital photo frame bundle gives your sweetie and 7 inch digital frame for the sofa table or on top of the desk, plus the added fun of a miniature keychain frame. Okay, so the keychain frame is a little on the cheesy side since it’s heart shaped, but it’s Valentine’s Day and we’ll allow a little cheese to seep through into our gadgets.
The standing photo frame actually comes with an interchangeable faceplate that you can change out just for Valentine’s Day, or you can stick with the basic red. Personally, I like the red. It’s not your typical boring black look at me I’m a picture frame sitting on the shelf. It’s fun, it pops, and it shows you pictures of things you love. All the things a photo frame really should be. Your standing picture frame supports memory stick, SD, MultiMediaCard, and Compact Flash (I and II) formats.
Your keychain frame on the other hand is tiny and cute, as keychains should be. The 1.5 inch keychain actually stores abround 60 JPEG format photos, so not too bad. Definitely better than those old plastic sleeve billfolds we used to carry around when we were kids. You know you remember those, when you stuck all your friends school pictures in there until you had 100 of these little blue background photos hanging out of your little photo holder.
Enough balthering from me, get out there and find your sweetie a great gift. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, your gift of two digital photo frames is surely going to speak volumes about how much you care. What does your Valentine’s gift say?

Zune with Love for Valentine’s Day
Zune actually released special edition Zunes last year for Valentine’s day. I haven’t seen any thing pop up for a limited time release this year, but you can still always go for the red 80 GB Zune. It’s a no-brainer kind of gift. I don’t think I’ve ever met a person that doesn’t enjoy listening to music and/or audio books from time to time.
But, don’t just give a plain Zune, that would be boring and we’re traying to jazz things up for V-Day! Speaking of jazz, you could load it up with your favorite jazz songs! Okay, that was cheesy, but you could really load it up with a lot of your favorite songs. You significant other will appriciate the time and thought you put into their song selections.
Or if you want to go for a dramatic effect you can upload just one song to the Zune. Make it the one special son. You know the one, and the recipient knows the one, but to everyone else it’s probably just a song. If I were giving this gift to my hubby I’d upload All of My Love by Led Zepplin. Why? Because that’s our song, silly. One song added to an MP3 player as a gift can make all the difference, especially on Valentine’s Day!
If you want to go all out on the Zune package, you can buy some great accessories to match. Include a leather case and comfortable earphones for a little extra wow factor in your gift. Whatever you decide to go with, make it from the heart. Stay tuned and subscribe to the feed for some more great Valentine’s Day gifts right here on Tech Style.

Active Range Sport MP3 Player With FM Tuner
Good morning, sunshine! I started Christmas shopping this week for my four boys. A big thing on my list is MP3 players.
First, a quick back story for you. My oldest two sons have iPods that we picked up as “refurbished,” basically they were as is with no warranty. I won’t make that mistake ever again. They are both pretty much dead in the water and if I send them back to Apple to get fixed they’ll charge me the cost of a new iPod, so what’s the point in repair, right?
It left me with a bit of a predicament. They really enjoyed having them while they lasted, but they were more hassle than they were worth. My husband’s iPod, which I bought straight from Apple brand new doesn’t have any problems, but these refurbished 2nd generation models just don’t cut it. They freeze, they erase themselves, and one of them refuses to be turned off, it’s just on 24 hours a day, so of course needs charged constantly.
So, my shopping spree to replace these lovely little things began. I figured I would pick up iPod shuffles to replace them. Then my 10 year old said magical words to me, “Mom, I don’t care if it’s an iPod or not, I just want music.” Dang, I love that kid.
His biggest complaint about his iPod, other than freezing screen, was that it didn’t have an FM radio to listen to. I thought about getting him just a small am/fm radio that he could stick in his backpack and listen to, but that just wouldn’t be as much fun if he couldn’t add his own music to it as well. After all, I’ve grown pretty fond of him cleaning his room and singing Kidz Bop songs on the weekends.
The Active Range Sport MP3 Player from Phillips solves a lot of that problem for me. And it comes in orange, which just happens to be Luke’s favorite color on the planet. It’s only 1GB, which is still a lot of songs. Who needs 8GB anyway? I’ll admit here that I’d like to see it be at least 2GB, because the boys do like to put audio books on their players, and the Harry Potter books are pretty big files. I don’t think those would fit onto 1GB. But, in defense of the player it does have a mini SD card slot for memory expansion, which is quite helpful.
I found the shape of this player quite intriguing, it’s round unlike the usual MP3 players that are square, rectangular, and pretty much any shape except for round. It also has a built in stop watch for those early morning runs, making it a little more sport than usual as well. So far there are some interesting features on this little wonder.
My favorite feature is still the FM tuner that’s built into the player. Digital files and a radio all in one little round piece of orange technology. However, with all this great stuff happening I found it odd that it runs on 1 AAA battery. I don’t know if that’s because of the FM tuner being part of it, or if there’s some other reason for it. I’m not sure how that all works inside, but it definitely has my attention.

Who Said GPS Had to be Boring?
Pharos made this GPS system both easy to use and helped ensure that your boyfriend won’t snag it and toss it in his own car for the weekend. It’s nice to see gadget makers realize that girls use just as much, if not more technology than guys in our daily lives. Not everything has to be boring black and white all the time. It doesn’t hurt to add a splash of color to your latest technology fueled creation.
I used a bigger picture than usual for this GPS system, because I wanted you to see one of the menu screens and how easy to use the product really is. Voice prompts and turn-by-turn audio directions that include name of the street or highway make getting there a breeze, (even if you’re like me with no sense of direction.) The large 3.5″ color touch screen LCD clearly displays the preloaded U.S. street level maps and navigation routing so you can see and hear where you’re going.

Nascar Laptop Skin for Father’s Day
Buying gifts for Father’s Day can be tough, and if you’re like me and forgot until just now then you might be wondering what to look for when you go rushing about shopping like a mad woman.
I came across these Nascar Laptop skins and thought they were just perfect for my husband for Dad’s big day! You can tell by my choice that hub’s is a Kurt Busch fan, and the little men in the household follow suit so everyone agreed that this would be a great gift for dad this year. Whew, crisis averted.
There are other drivers and cool Nascar gadget gear to be had too. The sport has really come along in the past few years and the marketing department has their thinking caps on for sure.
Whatever you get dad this year, have a great Father’s Day weekend.
