Back from Blogging Hiatus!

Hey there blog land! I just wanted to take a few minutes to let you know where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing. My husband has been ill and off work for some time now. This is the second time he’s been seriously ill since back in November when he was in the hospital.

This lead me to take a bit of an unplanned hiatus from blogging and from a lot of internet things in general. But, he is doing better. We’ve got a great team of doctors and specialists and he is back to work this week. Yay! I am happy to return to my blogging ways and I’ve got some great techy gizmos to blog about for you!

Sty tuned for lots of fun tech things, and don’t forget to subscribe to our blog feed.

DRI Sleeper Alarm System

DRI Sleeper Alarm SystemSo this gadget isn’t really stylish, or fun, and it doesn’t play music, video games, or make phone calls. However, as a parent I did find it interesting and worth a techie mention.

Bedwetting is quite a common occurrence which can be very hard on children and parents alike. It is particularly difficult when your child gets older and wants to enjoy sleepovers or or go to summer camp. The DRI Sleeper Alarm system is a small moisture detector that attaches inside the underpants.

It is designed to notice even the tiniest spot of urine and an alarm will go off to wake up your child. This is particular helpful if you’ve got a heavy sleeper that doesn’t realize they’re wet until they start getting the chills an hour or so later! That’s not comfortable for anyone, and it definitely makes things a little more difficult to clean up.

The detector is small and can be secured inside the underpants using a pantie liner type product or any other paper-based pad. The detector is easy to clean and designed to be reused.

According to research, in up to 90% of children over 5 years of age, an improvement in night dryness is achieved after using this device for just a few weeks. It is safe and easy to use and improves the lives of children and parents affected by bedwetting.

Scooba, Scooba Doo!

This weekend a stomach virus started to make its way around my house. So, needless to say I was constantly on the go with the cleanup wipes, doing laundry, making cups of tea, and pouring glasses of gingerale. In the midst of all this, I wished for one thing, and I’ll admit that it was probably an odd thing, and that was … cleaner floors.

scooba from irobotHow did such a thing bring me to want cleaner floors? Well, let’s just say that my youngest son sort of misjudged his aim when he was feeling especially ill and sitting in the living room.

The Scooba is the bestest buddy of the popular iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner.  Scooba does almost the same thing as Roomba, only Scooba is for linoleum, tile, and hard wood type of floors. As you guessed by now, that’s exactly what we have here.

What amazes me most is the amount of surface area this little gizmo cleans with just a tiny little bit of soap and water. It’s way more efficient than any mop and bucket combo I’ve ever seen.  And you don’t even have to sweep first, because it does that as it goes along.  Check it out ….

I can just picture this little guy rolling along scrubbing away the dirt in the middle of the afternoon leaving the house smelling all fresh. It would be almost as good as having a maid again! If you’re out there in blogland and you want to get me a belated birthday gift, or a Valentine’s Day gift …. Scooba would put you on the top of my awesome list!(BTW, they are on sale for V-Day and offering free shipping)

Technology Review Magazine

technology-review-magazineI like to keep up to date with what’s going on in Technology and on the Internet. Mostly I’ll do that by reading online, news, blogs, tech sites, etc. But, sometimes it’s nice to have reading material to go without carrying my laptop around. (And I don’t have a Kindle yet *pout :()

Technology Review is published by MIT and is packed full of technology news and stories of all kinds. They also have one of my favorite tech websites to read at. The topic spectrum is pretty big. You might read about purifying water with nano-particles today, and the buzz around the Google phone another day.

Personally, I was most interested in the recent article about the energy crisis and possible solutions. Everything seems to be in crisis these days, and energy and fuels are topping the list of things we need to fix, along with the economy, of course. Technology Review will help keep you in the know about what’s important, even if you didn’t know it was important yet.
